The C race was tough last Thursday - the usual frantic and relentless breaks. I missed the big move that proved to be the winning move. RVO had Tim Rowsen in the break and did a great job of blocking and slowing things down. Jordan was also in the move so me and Andy didn't pull on the front as we usually would to close it down. The last 4 laps were hard further breaks went and things split up, I stayed in the second group on the road and toed it round and rode the finale on the front with everyone lined out behind and as I fully expected they all came round in the last 200m but the race was already over so what was the point. As you all probably know from my relentless moaning my neck is a big problem, it affected my racing, I have had further physio and has now stopped me riding altogether - I don't know what's wrong other than it is bloody painfull and keeping me awake at night! Today has been a bad day - I have sat out the Etape Du Dales and I am not good company if I miss a ride!
No race this week so chance to get better with more physio tomorrow.
With regard to the blog about Sheff Rec - I think you have to attack, attack , attack - take the race to them - we have the better riders - just commit from the start and take the pain to them. Ride together and keep firing off the front - it would be hugely entertaining - if you let them dominate it will always be hard. Go for it.

NMRRL race 3 for us 'A' group wheelers, and after only 1 ride on my bike since the last race (work calls) which was last nights chain gang (blew the cobwebs away) I was looking forward to it again. Had a steady 2 laps at first then too lax and had to work a little to get back on 'lazy sod' on lap 4 i then had some guy eventually cut me up and then go off on onewith me. I ended up holding on to his shirt to keep him from going in hedge in amongst the blue language!! So that fekked me off so then i went up front and opened it up a bit but only 2 of us willing to work so relaxed for the last lap. Thought I had a good position but by the back straight the slowing up was bad and loads of riders going over the lines to get into a position (I of course did not first race lessons learnt) and ended up out of the last 3rd in the group at the bottom bend. Couldnt get the sprint going because I had to brake hard or it was the hedge then when i got round him and near the front I was blocked off by one of our own (A barn door of a man) and to cap it off he had been lapped (so why was he sprinting anyway) Racing it was but I tell ya when u come off that and have an average pulse of less than 130 for the trip and not a bead of sweat I wonder what a plonker I am for poor positioning and will learn yet again from mistakes. So in conclusion - I came 3rd on the night but 2nd if you discount the lapped rider and cam came 4th or 3rd on the night!! so pleasing for that aspect. I look ahead to next weeks race after a good week of trg too. By the way where are all the marmotte guys when i want some miles in my legs??

It sounds like the A group was a little disorganised, but great to see a strong finish, with yourself and Cam getting good positions.
As for the B group, a far better race and at a fast pace. We averaged 26.2mph but it felt comfortable. Again there seemed to be a little more space on the road and so I had a couple of moves to the front. Sheffrec had changed their gameplan and this seemed to be a big effort from them as a group. No breaks got away for long, not even Johnny Walters audacious attempt on the first lap. As a result it came to a sprint finish, positioning is all important and with all the Sheffrec guys in the race, it was not surprising that they came out on top again. For us now, hopefully a change of circuit will also change the fortunes of DRC and we can get some points on the board and challenge Sheffrec.

Last Race at Torworth for the A - Group and for some reason there was only 14 starters on the line. Only myself and Ben were there and after a lap and a half up sprang Bert!! OK the weather was very threatening - swirly gusts and rain a plenty all day but fortunately the rain held off until after the race. I felt very heavy legged all race I have to admit, I had a day off on the Wednesday and paid for it in the race. We also only did 5 laps which was welcomed actually and after a pull on the front for 1/2 lap early on I sat at the back and struggled to maintain my speeds out of any corner so had to drag my arse up to the front on the last lap with a plan of getting into a better position out of the last corner. Well that worked as I lead up North road and took it easy at 22mph and with no one wanting to take on the front it worked a treat. On the last corner I eased into it and looked for the wheels to take me to the line - But even that had its difficulties because the lift to 300 materialized but I just couldn't get out the saddle for the sprint and had to power on the pedals instead and pick my line before snatching 1st on the line. So I guess position wise I learned from the mistakes from last week but a bit puzzled as to my lack of stand up sprint availability - must do better - however pleased that I won in the end even though feeling a bit heavy legged. I look forward to the Harworth circuit as I am led to believe its more challenging and might suit me better as I wouldn't say I am a sprinter by any means - we shall see

The law of physics means that you will go slower up hill Its not the Milan san Remo so expect inexperience Unless you fly off up the road from the start expect to see other riders in the RACE

Its now September and the NMRRL league is over - what a great introduction to racing I have had this year and am so pleased that Dinnington RC offers us this opportunity, after cutting my teeth in grouo runs last year it was great experiencing the thrill of racing (Again, only on 2 wheels and not legs). Have enjoyed the buzz and made some good accquaintances in the group. Had a mixed Harworth Series- lack of speed and punctures resulting in 4th and 5ths but Stainton races went well although the win eluded me in the end. I look forward to next years event even more so, and after finishing 2nd in the A group with 56 points I feel I wont be out of my depth IF I go up to B group next onwards and upwards = hard work bring it on!!
